Can I bring a drone on a Komodo tour and are drones allowed in the national park?

You can bring a drone on a Komodo tour, but you cannot fly it everywhere in the national park. Drones are not allowed on Komodo Island or Pink Beach because these areas are protected and have strict rules to avoid disturbing wildlife, especially the Komodo dragons. Rangers will stop anyone attempting to fly in these locations, and the fines can be high. These restrictions help keep the animals safe and maintain a peaceful environment for visitors.

In other parts of the park, drones are generally allowed as long as you follow basic safety and privacy rules. Many guests fly drones at locations such as Taka Makasar, sandbars, quiet bays, or near anchor points where there are no animals or crowds. Always check with your boat crew first because they know the latest rules and can advise you on the safest and most appropriate places to fly.

Drone flying also depends on the weather. Komodo can be windy, especially during certain months, and losing a drone over the ocean is surprisingly common. The crew will guide you on when conditions are safe enough for flying, especially during sunrise or sunset when the scenery is at its best.

If you plan to bring a drone, pack extra batteries, ND filters, and a small launch pad or mat. As long as you follow the local restrictions and avoid flying near wildlife, you can capture some incredible footage of the islands and the bright turquoise waters from above.
