Are there jellyfish on Lombok to Sumbawa whale shark tours?

Occasional harmless jellyfish can be present in the waters around Sumbawa, including Saleh Bay, but they are not a significant feature of the whale shark tour and are rarely encountered in numbers that would affect the experience. The early morning water temperature and conditions at sunrise tend to minimize jellyfish activity, and the guides keep an eye out for anything that might cause discomfort to guests.

If you are particularly sensitive to jellyfish stings or have had allergic reactions in the past, it is wise to mention this to the team when booking. A lightweight rash guard or full-coverage swimwear provides excellent protection against incidental contact with any small jellyfish or other minor marine irritants, and it also offers sun protection. Reef-safe sunscreen and a light layer of clothing in the water are good practices regardless of jellyfish concerns.

The team has not reported any serious jellyfish incidents during whale shark encounters. The focus of the activity is on the sharks themselves, and any minor marine life present is typically part of the background ecosystem rather than a hazard. If a jellyfish is spotted, the guide will simply direct the group to a slightly different area. This is a very low-concern aspect of the tour, and it should not deter anyone from participating.
