Komodo National Park is a remote archipelago with no permanent hospitals or clinics on the islands themselves. Rangers stationed at Komodo Island and Rinca can provide basic assistance, but they are not medical professionals. If you need a doctor, you must travel back to Labuan Bajo, which is the closest town with medical facilities. The journey by boat typically takes between two to four hours depending on sea conditions and your location within the park.
Labuan Bajo has a basic hospital that can handle minor illnesses, stitches, dehydration, and common infections. For anything more serious, such as fractures, severe allergic reactions, or cardiac events, medical evacuation to Bali is usually necessary. Our team, including Deni, Irwan, Edgar, and Fandy, carries satellite phones and radios on every our boat voyages so we can coordinate help immediately if a guest feels unwell. We also brief guests during intake with Trip on any existing health conditions before departure.
If you are concerned about access to medical care, we strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance before joining any Komodo tour. Our partner cruises, from budget options to premium vessels like our boats, all maintain communication equipment for emergencies. While we hope you never need it, knowing the nearest doctor is hours away helps set realistic expectations for this wild, untouched destination.
