Helicopter rescues within Komodo National Park are extremely rare and generally not available as a standard emergency service. The terrain is rugged, landing zones are limited, and there is no dedicated medical helicopter stationed in the area. In theory, a private charter could be arranged from Bali or Makassar, but the cost would be enormous and the logistics complex. Weather and fuel range also make this unreliable.
For most medical emergencies, evacuation happens by boat back to Labuan Bajo, followed by air transport to Bali if needed. Our crew, including Captain Amar, is trained to stabilize patients and communicate with authorities using satellite phones and radios. We do not promise helicopter rescue because it is not a practical expectation for this region.
Travelers should plan for the reality that help will arrive by sea, not by air. This is another reason we emphasize comprehensive travel insurance and advance health disclosures during your intake with our team. Komodo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site precisely because it remains wild and undeveloped. That beauty comes with logistical constraints that every visitor should understand before booking.
