Not on your own authority, because your entry gate and exit gate are recorded at booking and checked against the ticket at check-in, and guests cannot casually switch gates after issue. The route on your permit is part of the registered data, so a post-issue change needs park authorization and a corresponding valid booking, not just a decision between you and your guide.
The system enforces this at the gate. Staff compare the QR code against the registered entrance and can check the planned exit as well, so arriving at Sembalun with a Senaru ticket will stop your trek before it starts. The official booking flow checks quota against the selected date and gates, which is why the gate pair is fixed data on the ticket rather than a suggestion.
There is one important exception, and it is not traveler-controlled. During a recent wildfire closure of the Senaru route, the park itself directed affected Senaru ticket holders either to reschedule or to enter and exit through Sembalun, and parties already on the mountain were directed to descend via Sembalun. That rerouting was an administrative decision announced by the authorities, which is exactly the point: a route change after issue is something the park authorizes in response to a closure, not something a trekker edits on a whim.
If you genuinely need to change route, go through your operator to the park administrator with your booking identifier, and ask what is possible for your ticket. Be ready for the answer to be no, and if it is yes, expect to rework the logistics: a different exit changes where your vehicle waits, which villages your porters stage from, and possibly your camp plan. A Senaru exit and a Torean exit are not interchangeable operations on the ground.
We always confirm the booked entry and exit gates in writing with guests before departure, and when the park announces a closure affecting a booked route, we contact the administrator, secure the authorized alternative or reschedule, and then rearrange transport and camps around the new plan. The rule of thumb: change the route with the park, never despite it.
