Are the tents on Mt. Rinjani safe?

The tents we use at Lombok-Indonesia.org are safe, well-maintained, mountain-grade dome tents designed to withstand the wind, occasional rain, and cold temperatures that are normal on Rinjani. Our team inspects and repairs equipment regularly so there are no torn seams, broken poles, or compromised zippers putting anyone at risk.

Each tent sleeps two trekkers, which provides body warmth on cold nights and reduces how many structures the porters need to carry. The setup includes an insulated air mattress and a sleeping bag rated for the temperatures you’ll face at the crater rim. Our guides choose tent placement carefully, orienting doors away from prevailing winds and staking guylines securely into the volcanic soil, which can be rocky and requires extra attention.

In unexpected severe weather, our guides know whether to reinforce with extra stakes, relocate to a more sheltered spot, or wait out conditions inside. The tents aren’t expedition-grade four-season models built for Himalayan blizzards, but they’re more than adequate for Rinjani’s conditions.

If you’ve got concerns about claustrophobia or sharing with someone you don’t know well, let our booking team know during reservation. Private tents aren’t standard because weight and logistics make them tough on porters, but we can discuss options.
