Is tap water safe on Komodo boats or in Labuan Bajo?

Tap water in Labuan Bajo is not safe to drink and should always be avoided for direct consumption. Hotels and restaurants use it for cleaning and showering, but drinking water is always provided separately. Most travellers rely on bottled or filtered water throughout their stay. This is standard across many Indonesian islands, and Labuan Bajo follows the same practice.

On Komodo boats, tap water is also not suitable for drinking. Liveaboards use stored water for sinks and showers, but guests are always provided with free drinking water on board. Our cruises include unlimited mineral water, which is available at all times along with tea and other soft drinks. You never need to bring your own water unless you prefer to carry a personal bottle.

Using bottled or filtered water is the safest and simplest option in both Labuan Bajo and on the boat. As long as you avoid drinking from the tap, you will not have any issues. Many guests also appreciate having a reusable bottle to refill throughout the trip to minimise plastic waste.
