Your phone is not automatically safe from water on a Komodo tour, and you should plan for exposure to sea spray, humidity, and potential submersion. The marine environment is relentless. even on larger tour vessels, waves can splash over decks during transit, and rain is always possible during the wet season from November to April. Salt water is particularly damaging to electronics.
We recommend bringing a waterproof phone pouch or a dry bag with a secure seal. These inexpensive accessories can save you from a costly replacement. If you are snorkeling at Pink Beach, Kanawa, or Taka Makassar, leave your phone in your dry bag unless it is specifically rated for underwater use. Even then, rinsing it with fresh water after exposure is important.
Our crew, including Deni, Irwan, Edgar, and Fandy, are careful with guest belongings, but accidents happen when hands are wet and boats are moving. Store electronics in a central, protected location when not in use. Do not rely on rice or improvised drying methods if your phone gets soaked. Prevention is the only reliable strategy in a place where the nearest electronics shop is hours away in Labuan Bajo.
