Most Komodo liveaboards manage their generators very well, so noise at night is minimal. Modern phinisi boats often switch to a smaller, quieter generator after dinner once guests are settling in for the evening. This keeps the cabins cool with air conditioning while reducing vibration and sound. Many travellers are surprised by how peaceful it feels compared to what they expect from a traditional wooden boat.
If you are a light sleeper, phinisi boats are usually a good choice because they are designed with night comfort in mind. Engines shut down completely when the boat is anchored, so the only sound you hear is the soft movement of water against the hull. The gentle rocking actually helps many guests sleep more deeply than they do on land.
Our boats, including El Rora and the partner phinisis we offer, follow the same routine. The crew knows how important sleep is during a multi day trip, so nighttime generator use is kept as quiet as possible. Guests almost never complain about noise and often comment that the nights were calm and surprisingly relaxing.
