Scuba diving in Komodo is safe when conducted with certified dive masters, proper equipment, and respect for local conditions. Komodo sits within the Coral Triangle, offering extraordinary biodiversity including manta rays, ocean sunfish, and vibrant reef walls. However, the same currents that bring nutrients also create challenging dive sites. Some locations feature strong drift dives that require experience and careful briefing.
All reputable operators, including our partners, employ dive guides who know the sites intimately. They assess currents, visibility, and guest skill levels before every dive. Decompression chambers are available in Labuan Bajo, which adds a layer of safety for serious diving incidents. Still, you should hold an appropriate certification for the dives you plan to undertake. Do not attempt advanced drift dives on a basic open water certification.
Divers should also follow standard protocols. Check your equipment thoroughly, ascend slowly, and respect surface intervals. Flying after diving requires a minimum eighteen to twenty four hour surface interval, which is why we schedule dives early in multi day itineraries.
Whether you are diving with a dedicated liveaboard or adding dives to your our cruises, honesty about your experience level is essential. The underwater world here is spectacular, but it demands preparation.
