Leave it in Senaru, with your trekking operator or your guesthouse, and collect it when you walk off the mountain. The standard summit and lake itinerary enters the park at Sembalun and exits at Senaru, so anything you store at the start village has to travel to the finish by road if you want it that day, and the simplest system is to store everything at the exit from the beginning.
Our setup makes this easy because we are based in Senaru. Guests sleep at our homestay the night before the trek, we carry their suitcases into secure storage while they hike, and the bags come out waiting when the group reaches the trailhead on the final afternoon. There is no transfer fee, no logistics puzzle, and no chance of a bag sitting in the wrong village, because the trek literally finishes at our front door.
If you stage from Sembalun instead, you need answers in writing before departure. Who drives the suitcase to Senaru, when does it leave, where exactly is it held, who signs for it, and is that transfer included in your package price or charged separately. There is no standardized per-suitcase fee on this mountain, and operators handle it differently, so an itemized written answer is the only kind that counts.
What you pack separately matters as much as where the big bag sleeps. Bring a small duffel with the things you want at the finish: clean clothes, sandals, toiletries, your passport, cash for tips, and whatever you need for onward travel. Hand that duffel to your guide on the first morning so it travels with the crew’s supplies, and leave the hard suitcase behind. Porters carry up to 25 kilograms each under park rules, and every unnecessary kilogram you ask them to shuttle between villages is weight taken from the group’s food and camp gear.
One last habit: photograph the bag, note anything valuable, and keep valuables with you rather than in any stored luggage. Storage on this route is safe in practice, but the professional standard is a named person holding the bag, a stated place, and an agreed handover time. Ask for that standard, and a good operator will give it without hesitation.
