The safest months are during the main dry season from April through November, with the sweet spot typically falling between May and October. That’s when rainfall is lowest, skies are clearest, trail conditions are most stable, and weather-related complications are at their minimum.
April marks the official reopening after the rainy season closure. Early April can still have occasional showers as the mountain dries out, but the landscape is lush and green from recent rains and trails are in good shape. May through July offer some of the most reliable weather of the entire year, with cool nights, warm days, and excellent visibility for those iconic sunrise views.
August and September are also excellent but tend to be busier with international visitors on summer holidays, so booking permits and accommodation well in advance is essential. October is often underestimated. It can be fantastic with fewer crowds, still-dry conditions, and a quieter mountain experience. November begins the transition toward wetter weather and becomes slightly more unpredictable.
Our guides at Lombok-Indonesia.org have led successful treks in every month of the open season. No month guarantees perfect weather, but the odds of dry, safe, visually spectacular conditions are heavily skewed toward the middle of the dry season. If you’ve got flexibility, aim for June through September for the best combination of safety, experience quality, and reliable logistics.
